What to Say If Kids Think You Told by Tom  Letson

Many kids are concerned about reporting bullying and teasing problems to school staff because they are concerned that if others find out they "told" they will get teased even more.  Well...It's every student's RIGHT to inform staff of what is going on and it's every student's RIGHT to attend school without being bullied or teased! What can victims say to a kid who confronts them by saying "You ratted on me I know it!" after a counselor or administrator has spoken to him about teasing or bullying? You don't owe anyone any answers.  Here’s several simple and effective responses:

"I have nothing to say to you."

"Why are you talking to me?"

"I guess it finally caught up with you."

"Why would you of all people think for a second that I would talk to you at all? Goodbye!"

Counselors and Administrators should NEVER tell the bully or teaser or his or her parents who provided staff with the information.  Why?  IT IS IRRELEVANT and they are not entitled to it. What is relevant is stopping the bullying and teasing.
